How can I make sure I can get a good job when I graduate?
You can do this through many activities, including the following:
- Visit our office often and meet with your Career Consultant to get help with your career development
- Attend a small group advising session on topics such as resume writing, interviewing, internships, grad school, and choosing a major
- Attend Career Fairs each semester
- Gain skills and experience through internships, volunteer activities and part-time employment and register with DAWGlink to locate these opportunities
- Build networking contacts by joining on-campus, off-campus and various professional organizations
- Attend special career events such as "JumpStart" and "Career In" panels held Fall & Spring Semesters
- Take ECHD 2050 and 3050, elective courses that can help you choose a major and career as well as prepare you for life after graduation
What if I don't choose a career field like business, law, medicine or computer science? Can I still have a secure future with a liberal arts degree?
A major you enjoy (and may therefore do better in academically), combined with relevant/transferable skills and experience (developed through internships & other activities), is what will contribute most to a secure future for you in today's world. Going into fields like business, law, medicine or computer science does not necessarily guarantee security, high pay, and/or your future well-being, especially if it is not the career in which you are most interested. The good news is that all majors can lead to successful careers! Once you have a target in mind (or even before), we can help you to gain key advantages that will contribute greatly to a more secure future. Visit us early and often so we can show you how!
